I just received a help call from a new OSX user wanting to know what her admin password is. She had recently pulled her Mac out of the box and the system was pre-installed.

It has been too long since I installed my OSX and I have forgotten if there was a default admin password for those that neglected to choose one. I am doubtful that she was able to turn the computer on without setting up the admin password but she claims she has never heard of the admin password.

Does anyone recall how to set or recover the password on a new installation?

Oy - nevermind...

I found out you can insert the original OSX CD to handle this.

But that was not the problem after all...

While booting from OS9, the user was renaming her folders in her home/Users directory. When she booted in OSX, her system was haywire. Perhaps this is one reason why Apple plans to eliminate the ability to boot from OS9 in future OSX and hardware releases.
