I walked into a situation with a W2k server having no administrator password. They would like to secure this server but BackUp Exec is set to run under the Administrators account.

When I add a secure password to the Admin account Backup Exec is going to fail. Is there an easy way to fix this security problem without removing and re-installing Backup Exec?

Thanks in advance

You will have to use beattach.exe located in \program files\Veritas\backup exec\nt directory

If you go to veritas support and look up technote ID 239653 it will walk you through it

You can manually change the logon password for the Backup Exec services under Computer Management --> services.

Best practice would be to create a seperate domain admin account for the backup exec services. That way if the administrator account password is changed it will not effect Backup Exec.

The problem with that is it doesn't change the services login passwords and you will have to do each one individually - no big deal just a hassle.

And I agree he should change the account from administrator to a seperate backup account.
