I just upgraded an NT machine with W2K, and for some strange reason when logging on as Administrator, the account does not download properly. What normally is on the desktop is replaced with a generic desktop. The mapped drives are not there, nor are the internet settings. It is seeing the network fine, and is capable of mapping the drives. But after logging off then on again all the drives that were mapped are no longer there? This is also the case with another machine that was formatted and replaced with NT os.

When you say logging on as Administrator, do you mean local user Administrator, domain user Administrator or another user with Administrator access? (local/domain). Have you checked out the profiles in \winnt\profiles (eg, are there several Administrator's with suffixes or are all the previous existing profiles now no longer there? - update from MT to 2k should still use this location rather than Documents and Settings, but I have seen posts on other forums where existing profiles on machine have been lost in the upgrade process - which is why recommend backing up before running upgrade).
Are you using roaming profiles?

When you map the drive there should be a check box that says to reconnect to the mapped drive every time you log on, select this and your mapped drives should stay. But, as Wolluf and others mention throughout the forum upgrading rather then clean install often cause lots of unwanted and not nessarly logical errors.
