adjusting path

I am trying to adjust paths that form circles.
or maybe it is an outline. i can add new points.
but cannot seem to drag the handles like in photoshop.
it is very annoying. my corners are right angles not
radius.

...select the artboard the white arrow tool, then click on the path...

...then with the pen tool (holding the alt/option key) or the white arrow tool you can adjust the path nodes and handles...
