newbie question for you all

1) I place a shape on a layer lets say a circle
2) I want to precisely place that circle to an exact
location on the image
3) to do so I either use the mouse or the arrow keys

my problem

using the mouse or the arrow keys does not give me the
accuracy that I am looking for

question
1)Is there a way to adjust the setting for the arrow keys
so that the circle moves in smaller increments each time
I press the arrow key?

2) when using VB I can place an object on a form in an
exact location by setting it's top and left propertys.
Can I do something similar in PS6 to place the circle on
the form?
3) Is there a way to place a second smaller circle in the
center of a larger circle?

Hi there,

1 - The arrow keys only move an image 1 pixel at a time. I have not heard of it moving any more than that, or being able to change it. I just looked through the Preferences and couldn't find anything about that. Make sure that if you are moving something with the mouse that SNAP TO GRID isn't turned on, that might be causing your some problems.

2 - No answer for this question

3 - Once you've made your big circle put it where you want then enable rulers (Ctrl+R) then drag guides from the rulers and snap them to the center of the big circle. Then on a new layer make another smaller circle, then drag it into the center of the bigger circle and it should snap to the center of the big one.

OR

3 - You can make your big circle. Then use the magics wand tool and click inside the cicle to get a marquee. Then goto SELECT|MODIFY|CONTRACT then choose how ever many pixels you wish to contract the marquee I think 16 is max in PS-6 but you can do it several times. Then once you have the desired marquee size, goto EDIT|STROKE then choose how thick you want the circle, and the color to outline it with, whether you want the outline inside, outside, or on the marquee then hit ok, and you have a perfectly centered circle inside a bigger one. I would first make a new layer before going to EDIT|STROKE.

Hope this helps!
