I know I'm ancient in terms of my software. I have been using Illustrator 10 since 2003 and recently had to upgrade to cs4 when I bought a new computer. I do plan on taking a class to get up to speed but in the mean time I still need to be able to create graphics and still need illustrator cs4 to at the very least do the same things illustrator 10 did for me. I can't imagine it won't. Usually an upgrade on software is to make it better not worse.
So I am used to selecting my colors in the tools panel to set my self up for my design. Then using the pencil tool drawing several shapes. Then using the blend tool to blend two shapes together. Using Illustrator 10 this was very effective. With CS4 every time I try to draw a shape it is only an outline and reverts back to black it does not draw with the colors I have selected and it does not fill in the color. I have to draw the shape first then go back and select the color I want for it to fill in. It's cumbersome and adds several steps to achieve the same thing I could do in illustrator 10 in just one step. I'm sure that this is operator error and that I just need to set something in the program differently. I just can't imagine that the new software would really intend to replace a 1-2 step process with a 4 step process for the same effect. What do I need to set so that when I use the pencil tool to draw a shape it automatically uses the color I have selected and automatically fills in when I have finished drawing the shape?
