Adjustable Range in MS Excel

Does anyone know how to write a formula or piece of code that would enable me to create a adjustable range in MS Excel. I am trying to create a year to date column of information that changes based on the month I input into a control cell. (ie input June and the range would sum six columns, input July and the range would sum seven columns. I apprciate any help.
