I'm looking for 4 separate adjectives that intuitively describe their relative levels related to one another

It really easy to think of 3 such as Basic, Standard, Advanced

For "reasons" I would also like a short form abbreviation of 3 characters (or 4 if that works best)

Basic, and Advanced are obvious choices for the lower end and higher end (at least to me)

Low Med High also works

I'm looking for 4 tiers though

How about Basic, Standard, Advanced, Premium? It's odd to shorten Basic, but you could go for Base, Std., Adv., Prem.

If you think the two middle terms should be something below and above average, you could go for base, simplified, advanced, and premium or extra.
Words meaning a middle like standard, medium, mid, average etc. are your enemy in these scales unless you go for five adjectives.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks Olaf,

I am trying to avoid premium and standard for other reasons as these are existing designations with specific meaning semi related to what I'm trying to accomplish

More Context

I'm trying to develop an intuitive naming convention for a licensing system so that we do not need to reference outside sources to know what to assign.

We have 8 total levels with 4 pairs based on equipment type and 2 base license requirements

the 2 Base Licenses are named Premium and Standard
The 2 equipment types are SIP and Proprietary
There are 4 tiers of capabilities

I could go with something like the following

[pre]SIP_Std_Bas (very basic)
XXX_Std_Bas (very basic)
SIP_Std_Adv (More features)
XXX_Std_Adv (More features)
SIP_Prm_Bas (Power users)
XXX_Prm_Bas (Power Users)
SIP_Prm_Adv (Everything)
XXX_Prm_Adv (Everything)[/pre]

I can see someone selecting the wrong license easily with the above. My leading contender in the following

[pre]SIP_Std_Nil (very basic)
XXX_Std_Nil (very basic)
SIP_Std_Bas (More features)
XXX_Std_Bas (More features)
SIP_Prm_Med (Power users)
XXX_Prm_Med (Power Users)
SIP_Prm_Adv (Everything)
XXX_Prm_Adv (Everything)
[/pre]
I'd rather not use numbers as we run reports on license usage and numbers are not descriptive enough.

LOL Olaf, I see where you got that.

I'll run it by the team

Ok here are the leading contenders after feedback from my team

I personally like Opt3 with ADV

[pre]
OPT1 | Opt2 | Opt3

Level 1 = BAS | BAS | LTD

Level 2 = LTD | MOR | MED

Level 3 = ADV | PWR | ADV/PWR

Level 4 = All | ALL | ALL[/pre]

Well, I already stated words for medium/middle/average make less sense in a system with 4 levels. But I have no overview if the levels indeed are symmetrical or asymmetrical. I like OPT1, as LTD and ADV are both directions off of MED, but Opt3 would fit when you see ALL as the exceptional non plus ultra.

Regarding symmetrical or asymmetrical

I feel this information is non-proprietary so I will share where this all started with specifics.

Below is what was suggested initially by the team. You will see immediately that without a cross reference its difficult to know the purpose of the license bundle other than judging by the length of the name

One of the groupings has since been removed in the premium range but I forget which. (there are 5 total levels below, now only 4)

I've done my best to organise the appearance here to show where redundancy can be removed

My suggestion was to eliminate redundancy and simplify to the 3 categories
- Set type (2 types)
- Product Code (2 types)
- Features (4 types)

Entry UCC 3
Standard bundle
Premium bundle
Voicemail
vm to Email
cell Twinning
Next gen sip softphone
Pc softphone,
Micollab client
1 (MiNet phone)
2 (Generic SIP device)

[pre]
Bundle Name Product Code Features

EUSM1 VFB_Standard UCC3 license, MiNet phone, MiCollab Client
EUSM2 VFB_Standard UCC3 license, Generic SIP device, MiCollab Client
EUSVEM1 VFB_Standard UCC3 license, MiNet phone, VM, Vm to email, MiCollab Client
EUSVEM2 VFB_Standard UCC3 license, Generic SIP device, VM, Vm to email, MiCollab Client

[/pre]

OK, this detail level doesn't tell me much.

The logical opposite of all is nothing, but it can't even be your entry level, so by definition, there is some asymmetry to be expected in the four levels, entry level isn't nothing, it needs to be something already working. And then any terms for midrange can make sense on level 2 of 4, that's the whole logic I have in mind. It would help customers to put the level in perspective if they know what gives them minimum standard and advanced functionalities.

Bye, Olaf.

Yeah, I agree that All and NIL are opposites but the Team thinks NIL has a negative impression for some reason. I was shot down on that suggestion

I think I have enough options at this point for the team to work with.

I really appreciate the opportunity to talk it through and for all the suggestions.

For people: BAS, STD, ADV, EXP(ert) ot ADM(inistrator)
For products: BAS, STD, ADV, and then GLO(bal), ULT(ra), MAX(imo), ALL (as previously suggested), etc.

Ooohh, I like MAX instead of All

ULT isn't too bad either

With This in mind the extremes look best at Min/Max

Mid range STD and ADV

Extreme could also be a good option

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Last, then ultimately last, final, ultrafinal and don't forget the infinity extension, and beyond.

Bye, Olaf.
