I have recently added another computer to my office
running Win2K. With my Win98 machine I can type in an
address in our intrAnet and I get there without fail.
However, on my Win2K it can't find the site unless I enter
the entire address.
For example, if the site were:
on the 98 machine I can enter only:
and get to the site.
On the win2K I must enter:
to make it to the site.
Is this a DNS config problem or what?
I am using the same version of IE 5.5 on both machines.
thanks!

Could be a DNS issue, could be a WINS issue, could be a HOSTS issue, could be an LMHOSTS issue.

Make sure your 2k machine is pointing to the same DNS and WINS servers as the 98 machine, and if that doesn't do it, install NetBEUI on your Win2k machine if it's not already there.

If that still doesn't do it, compare c:\windows\hosts (and lmhosts) on the 9x machine to c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (and lmhosts) on the 2000 machine. Marc Creviere
