Hi...

I use Windows XP Pro
512MB DDR OCZ Gold RAM (2X256MB)
2.8Ghz P4
ATI 128MB Radeon 9700 Pro (latest driver)
All Critical Updates installed and DirectX 9.0b

About a few weeks ago I started to get explorer.exe errors where the message says:

"The instruction at "0x77f57ec4" referenced memory at "0x00000067". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program"

The above usually happens when I do the most basic things such as right-clicking on a folder, opening up Internet Explorer browser, or even when I point to Start -> Programs. So seeing as I do not know anything about debugging, I just click on OK and the screen turns black for about a second and whole desktop and system tray programs reload.

At first when this started to happen it appeared quite rarely, like every now and again. But from the last 3 days this problem has occured more frequently. Also last night when I was using Windows Media Player 9 to copy some music from CD is when it went a bit crazy with the error popping up a lot when doing basic things with folders.

Finally last night, I tried to run a game on MAME32 (a games emulation program) and the system froze with the mouse an egg timer, however the mouse could be moved and I can get into the Task Manager....I tried to End the task, then a blue screen appeared that said something about windows doing it to prevent damage to the system or hardware, and told me to reboot. After it rebooted it gace a message that the system has just recovered from a serious error, and this is the technical details of the message:

"Error signiture
BCCCode: a BCP1: 00000000 BCP2: 0000001C BCP3: 00000001
BCP4: 804F64AC OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:1_0 Product: 256_1"

I'm guessing this could be a RAM problem. Can anyone help to point out and get rid of the problem please?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like one of two things may have happened to your machine. Either the explorer.exe file has become corrupted and you need to reinstall windows or do a repair. The more probable cause of this problem, however, is probably that you have a bad memory stick. Try replacing the memory or download a program from download.com that can test your memory before purchasing.
