Address book won't synch from Visor to Palm desktop

I've been racking my brains trying to figure out what's could be wrong: I can't get my Visor Deluxe (running Palm OS 3.5) to completely hotsynch with the Palm desktop software (v.4.01). Both the calendar, memos and To Do list synch perfectly, but the items in the address book will not carry over the desktop. I've checked the Hotsynch manager menu under "custom" and everything there seems correct. And the log shows no errors associated with the synch. I've also tried fiddling around, having the Visor overwrite the desktop; again, everything but the address book transports over fine. I've also tried re-installing the desktop software a couple of times. No difference.
Any ideas? I've also tried to synch this Visor with my wife's laptop: the same symptoms pop up.
Here's a final bit of background, I previously synched this Visor with my copy of Sidekick99 without problems, but decided to go the Palm desktop route recently. And, yes, I have uninstalled Sidekick on my PC.
thanks,

Sponge,

I have been dealing with a similar issue with one of my users.

The difference here is that she was running Easysync for Lotus Notes.
I wrote to Handspring and they told me that Lotus leaves hidden files on the Visor (Palm) and that the way to fix this is to hard reset the Palm and then sync.

=========================================
Following is the message I got from Handspring.

You should be able to resolve the all of the hotsync problems that you
outlined in your message by doing the following:

A. Perform a hotsync operation to backup your data (if possible or
necessary).

B. Perform a hard reset.

With a Hard Reset, all records and entries stored in your organizer are
erased.

To perform a hard reset:

1. Firmly hold down the power button on the front panel of the handheld.

2. While holding down the power button, use a stylus inserter pin or the tip
of a paper clip (or similar object with a blunt tip) to press the reset
button inside the hole labeled "RESET" on the back panel of your handheld.
You should feel the inserter pin bounce back from the reset button.

3. When the Palm Computing Platform and logo appears on the screen, release
the power button. Do not release it too soon, otherwise the hard reset will
not proceed.

4. When the message appears on the handheld screen warning that you are
about to erase all the data stored on your handheld, press the upper half of
the scroll button on the front panel of your Visor to complete the hard
reset.

C. Remove you backup folder.

1. Start the Windows Explorer application: Start | Programs | Windows
Explorer.

2. Open C:\Program Files\Palm\<user name folder>\Backup... The path may also
be C:\Palm\UserName\Backup or C:\Program Files\Handspring\UserName\Backup

3. Drag this Backup folder onto the desktop.

D. Perform a hotsync operation to retrieve your data and install your third
party applications one by one.

=========================================

The reason for moving the Backup folder, is so that it doesn't try to reload all of the extra files and programs. "You are making sure that they do not come
back to the Visor during a Hotsync."

Hope this helps

I hope this works. My boss is having the same problem. -God Bless

I was finally able to try this with my co-worker.

It worked great!

It was a little scary wiping everything out.
But once done, we synched and the address book came over just fine. (address book was the only thing we had on the Palm Desktop)

We started reinstalling some of the programs she needed right away (like Launcher III ver 2.2 and Datemate). The settings came across just fine including registration info.

Next, we reinstalled Easysync for Lotus Notes and then synched. It worked as it should!

This was a success story. She's happy and I'm happy. [thumbsup2]
