Address bar in IE does not assume http://....why?

ok.... so its not an actual office program...but I thought maybe someone could still shed some light here.

Just out of the blue, for no reason at all my address bar no longer accepts shortened urls.

I used to type in games.com and it would assume the http;//www. but now it just goes to something called

http://www.crackedearth.com/search.html?s=games.com

I have went into the tools/internet options/advanced and checked all the settings. Even reset them to factory default but it still does this cracked earth thing.

any ideas why this IE is going mad on me? Ya' Gotta Love It!

well....ok....it worked on my IE5.5 also 2 days ago but like i said ...just quit all of a sudden.

any other ideas? Ya' Gotta Love It!
