I am having a very frustrating problem...

Just out of the blue, for no reason at all my address bar no longer accepts shortened urls.

I used to type in games.com and it would assume the http;//www. but now it just goes to something called

I have went into the tools/internet options/advanced and checked all the settings. Even reset them to factory default but it still does this cracked earth thing.

any ideas why this IE is going mad on me? Ya' Gotta Love It!

Try this and see if it works. Type "google" (without the quotes) then hit <ctrl>+<enter>, that should put the http:// and the .com on the end and it will go to the page directly. A+ MCP

that is a neat shortcut (I love shortcuts) and will work for all of my .com needs but still does not solve the why and how of this metamorphosis that took place all of a sudden.

For anyone who is wondering...it has nothing to do with AutoComplete... that was my first inclination..so I went thru all the settings and believe it or not...my AutoComplete is working fine.

Still begging for solutions.... anyone? Ya' Gotta Love It!

You might try changing the setting under Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Search from the Address bar...
Change it to "Just go to the most likely site", I think that'll do what you want it to...

I tried that just now...and much to my dismay... I still have the same problem.

I even called Microsoft and they wanna charge me $35 just to speak with technical support whether he helps me or not. (Something about that give me an inclination of how bill got his money.... sigh)

I called Dell who manufactured my computer and they were pretty clueless also.

I appreciate any and all comments and suggestions concerning this. Ya' Gotta Love It!

I am having the same problems!!! I have tried all the suggestions to no avail...The site crackedearth.com seems not to be functioning!! Any other suggestions??? Thanks!

I fixed it!!!! I went into REGEDIT ...did a search for crackedearth & deleted any of those files it found (saying crackedearth) then went into internet properties set my start page as what it was originally, rebooted, and this fixed the problem.

Yup....
I used to have the same problem. You could go thru the registry as the good geeks, Leo & Pat, at Tech-TV explain...

HKEY_USERS, Software, Microsoft, Internet Explorer, Main
then find the 'Start Page' string and modify that

OR !!!

Download one of the Tweak utilities that handle this seamlessly. I prefer Xteq Systems X-Setup at . You can modify sevral Windows settings. ;-)

There is also Tweak-UI.
