Im looking at an old exchange 5.5 server that accepts emails for one email domain but I need to configure it to accept email from a second domain as you do in recipient polices on Exch2000.
Can anyone explain where you set this on 5.5.
1) Makes sure the stuff external to Exchange (DNS MX record etc) duplicates the old domain settings, else the inbound email will never arrive;
2) In the IMS Properties, on the Routing, add the new domain as Incoming (don't forget to stop and start the service for the changes to takes effect);
3) Site Addressing only allows 1 single internal domain to automatically update GAL objects, so you're going to have to add secondary proxy addresses to every object that you want to have an email address on the second domain. Note that each mailbox only gets a single primary smtp proxy, which is the sending address, all others work for receiving only. Also, it's not possible for the user to change which email address they use to send from. You can add all these extra addresses by hand if you have just a few, but more than 10 gets a little boring. Directory Export will get you a list of current email addresses, and a bit of editing in Excel (or similar) will build you an import file to add all the extra addresses. It's non-trivial but you'll manage if you're a techie just do a google for "exchange 5.5 bulk import/export faq" for an excellent guide to the task.
And feel free to post back with any more specific questions.
If you have two domains that are identical (ie. company.com and you want to add company.net) then you can simply reroute company.net to company.com by doing as zbnet suggested in point 2, except set the new domain as Rerouted to company.com
That way, you don't need to add new e-mail addresses to each account, a mailbox with myname@company.com will receive e-mails addressed to both myname@company.com and myname@company.net
We have a current 5.5 organization with one server running in an NT 4.0 domain. We are adding a Exchange 2003 server to get email push techology. The 2k3 server will be in a 2nd domain.
1. Can I have just one email domain that spans both email servers and still have two network domains?
Hi Computertech33. You should post your question in a new topic rather than tack an unrelated question (unrelated to the subject heading) onto an existing topic.
