BEFSR41W is supposed to be a "wireless-ready" router, which works great so far on my little LAN network.
It has a PCMIA slot in the back, where you can plug in a WPC11 (802.11b) card to act as an access point.

Has anyone made that work before?

I'm not sure if it's a firmware problem (trying to upgrade from v1.0 to v1.17)

When I plug in the WPC11 card, then power-up. The diag light keeps staying red, supposedly indicating a problem.

Any tips would be very much appreciated

That means you're using the wrong version of wpc11. refer to the router's user guide to know what specific version you have to use. :)
