We are using a new BCM50 and we've got 4 lines (1FL) for in/out calls. I've been asked to research the possibility to add a VoIP PRI to our system to increase the number of lines and to decrease our LD costs. Is this possible on a BCM50?

I've trie to research it but I must be honest, I'm not sure I've got all the terminology proper.

I do have access to the BCM admin.

Thanks in advace.

Assuming you've got an expansion port available, you could install an expansion cabinet and a T-1 card. There are providers out there who deliver a T-1 to your location which terminates to a router of some sort. There is a connection out of that router that you connect to your system. In essence, the only 'real' part of that PRI is in the cable between the BCM and the router.

As far as IP trunking to the central office, not yet, but someday it will be here I'm sure.

You want a PRI this is a 23 channel T1 that are two way trunks.(incoming and outgoing calls use the same channels)
Also you get CLID the number comes across if you pay alittle moe you can get the name too.The BCM 50 can handle this. You need an expantion module and a Digital trunk media bay module. And with the PRI you can get DID's.They are numbers you can program as target lines to phones. Each phone can have a direct line. Also you can port you main line over to the PRI. Voip is on your network where you can call between branch offices.

So if I understand correctly I can't just configure my BCM to use a Skype account as a PRI? I mean the BCM is already on our network and could access the internet (in theory)

Thanks for the quick reply.

If this is somethimg like Vontage yes and no if the Voip Company gives it back to you in a analog line then yes but not thru you internet connection.

The way i read this you are not looking for a PRI but instead you want to connect your Skype VoIP account to your phone system. There is a device that will take your Skype account and allow you to connect it to a regular line card in your BCM 50. You may only have 4 lines in your system and may need to add an expansion module along with a four or eight line Caller ID card. I don't have the name handy of the device, but i will post another reply if i find it.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Any help in this matter greatly appreciated.
