Wonder if anyone can help, I have a new G4 Laptop, which has a damaged internal cd/dvd drive... however until i can find the time to send it back, I want to attach a USB external CD drive.

When I attach the USB CD , it says it needs software loaded, as I cant use the internal CD, is there anyway I can confuse the OS in to seeing the external CD so I can load the software ?

Thanks in advance

Ouch - there's a pickle.

Connect to another Mac via ethernet and transfer software.

Or...

If you have working internet access, download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

Ok, I have downloaded the drivers, stuff it and placed in the ext folder. Nowwhen i boot up, I dont get any errors, the system see the CD player, but when i put a CD ( any type ) it does not place it on the desk top , where did i go wrong ?

Cheers in advance

I found a network cable and then used file sharing to reload the software from the cd-rom... nice suggestion

Cheers :)
