Adding unnumbered plate to book document 1

I have a number of documents in a IDCS2 book. The book and each separate document (chapter) use auto page numbering (it is actually a book). I've just discovered I need to add illustrations to some of the chapters - full-page plates (on right-hand pages, with nothing on the back), and they need to be skipped over - not included in the numbering. Ideally I'd be able to put "plate numbers" on them that refer to the immediately prior page number (like "128A" or something).

I can't figure out how to add a page that will be completely ignored for page numbering purposes and won't screw up the auto-numbering for the document and the book, much less how to get the previous page's number onto that page.

Anyone know how I might be able to do this?

or you can start a new 2-page 'section' at the point of the plate with the appropriate page numbering and then another new section directly after the plate (and its associated black verso) and number *that* section from the next consecutive number prior to the plate section ...

ie section one might run from page number '1' through to '16', the plate section from 'i' to 'ii' (although you probably won't want to show the folio on the blank page) and the third section (and here you are back to the text of the book) from 17 onwards ...

The problem with starting a new section for the plate and then another one after the plate is that I don't believe I can use auto-numbering if I do that. In other words, if section one runs from page numbers 1-16, I have to start section three at page 17 manually. If I were to add additional material to section one, so it now runs to 18 pages, I'd have to manually change section three to start at page 19. I'd have to do this for each plate.

Since this is a multi-chapter book with numerous plates, this becomes quite a burden. I really need to be able to use auto-numbering - I'll be adding and removing and editing, thus changing the pagination, and if the pages don't renumber automatically, there will be a big potential for error. So what I want is for the automatic page numbering to skip section two and resume with section three.

I suppose I could wait until the entire project is finalized and then add the plates, but I was hoping to avoid manual pagination entirely. But I'm beginning to think there simply is no way to do what I want to do!
