Hi All,

I am trying to automate shutdowns of our 10 MF 1.8 servers - 1 per week night over 2 weeks. We run a 24 hour operation and I don't want to disrupt users at all.

I have scripts to notify users of the shutdown (a number of times), log them off, delete their temp files etc etc, but I can't remove servers from published applications.

Ideally I want to take a server out of all of it's published apps 24 hours before it is rebooted so that most users are off it.

Does anyone know a way to add/remove a server to/from an application? Or better still, an application that could do ALL of this? Cheers,
Sam

Why don't you use CHANGE LOGON /DISABLE in your scripts to disable new logon's. As soon as a user logs off, he can't connect to that server. If you do that to all the servers you then can schedule the reboot.

The problem with that solution is that if the server is still defined in the published application, as its load reduces, all new connections to that application will attempt to connect to the one with logins disabled. Thus, the application will be unavailable. I have run into this in the past.
