Althought we run SATA drives on a rack sever, i have never added a SATA drive into an XP/IDE pc,
1- Do you require any converters/additional leads when implementing it?
2- Will XP just pick it up as an additional drive with no issues or do you have to add disk controllers etc?

Thanks in Advance

1: SATA requires an add-on power cable adapter with the sata style connector from a molex and sata drive obviously requires the mobo --> drive SATA style cable.

2: If xp is Patched up to service pack 1 or higher it should pick up the drive np and as its full size if >140gb but if its standard release with no service packs it may only find 140gb max.

The 140GB limit Krosus is actually referring to is 24-bit LBA, which is 137.4GB to be more exact...

Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP1 and higher all have support for 48-bit LBA. However, it's possible that the BIOS or IDE controller on the mobo itself doesn't support 48-bit. Most of the time, a BIOS upgrade resolves this issue.
