Hi,
I want to add "Properties" link in the broswe view for all the items displayed under the containers ( this should come up with "Edit","open" and "Download" links). I know we can do it by editing "browseview.html" file, but this will be like playing around with OTs in-built module (my question is - is it safe to do so?). Is there a way to create a seperate module to fulfil this request? Please advice as i am pretty new to module development.

Depending on how you do this it may survive further OT versions.I enclose a screenshot of how I did this with customisations_rt and my own module

my patch worked without any problem in CS10

The script feature I changed was
function Assoc _ConvertToJSON although if there was more time to develop I had to do that in hrs so found a convenient place to hook into.

promotedCmds is an object or an array you should start looking at.

BTW a lot of these beautification/aesthetic things can be done with AJAX/JSON OT uses jquery to do most of their painting stuff.in 9.7 the jquery library is somewhere in cs10 it is different .I do not quite understand jquery so I used oscript to deliver my project

Thanks a lot for replying. since i do not own customizationsrt module, your suggestions still be valid? I will anyways check promotedCmds!!

you do not need to own ". since i do not own customizationsrt module" the module that module is an unsupported module of framework delivered by OT and you can find it in the KB. Actually in my lifetime of dev I have seen that,a module called HTMLMAP and a module called OTOVERRIDE. What you are essentially doing is making changes by mapping the html files from modules to your own modules. If you have not used it please make use of it.At Greg's website there ought to be a short write up on it.
Most of the experienced oscripters use a collection or a bag of tricks essentially in my project when I originally thought I was working on browseview, later I found that recyclebin was taking over the core browseview so to make my customization I overwrote the recycle bin's html files using Run Time Mapping that is what the RT in there stands for.

In my opinion if you follow that path your overrides are pretty stabel:)

Thanks a lot guys for helping me out here!..
@Greg : i have already checked your websites !!
I also checked the cutomizationsrt link you provided but link says "you do not have permission to view this item " (i have KC access)..
Can you please direct me to correct linj?

Read this thread to know oscript guru's in this this thread and notice Chris Webster's posting. It is important to know them.I was lucky to be part of a project with him and it has helped me tremendously.
This thread has nothing like a link to customizations_rt but it is a very good thread regarding oscript dev.

PLEASE PAY VERY GOOD ATTENTION WHEN DEVELOPING OSCRIPT AND FOR THAT MATTER ANY CODE.I really do not want to become another case study @OT that they say like "see what this org did with customizing livelink and now we can't upgrade'.Hans can be found very easily on the KC and he can point you to the module. But if you read the above thread you can do it without any custom module as Chris Webster(great friend as well) is one of the finest oscript developers(actually GURU) out there.Try to see if you can take builder training as that will go a long way provided you want to stay serious in oscript dev.

Sorry I may get in trouble if I gave you that module.Maybe ask support. If you are working with a OT solution like xECM,Contracts.Case then you already have this module in your install
