Adding "Graphics Software" after initial install 1

Hopefully this is one of those easy questions that one of you guys will rattle off...

I loaded AIX 5.2 on a server recently and I didn't select "graphics software" as part of the initial load. Is there an simple way to load this now? I was hoping to keep all the X stuff off the system, but the users put the kabosh on that idea.

Hi!

You will have to install X11... packages from the installation media. Most probably it will imply installing Java131 package too.

There will a "dtlogin" resource come to existence to control "dtlogin" service.

Thanks! I muddled through this last week. I already have the Java stuff installed, so that wasn't a requirement.

Installing all the X11 stuff doesn't involve putting in disk 1 from the installation media, then disk2, disk3, slamming your head into the system, disk 5, disk 1 and then disk 3. Or something like that.

I added the head bashing for effect.

Well, I do not need any language packages other than englist thus I rarely need any discs other than #1 and #2.

Even though you might browse around in SMIT if there is a post install option about installing X11 and related stuff.

An idea could be installing english language packages of X11 and then browse the install CD-s for the .msg. and maybe .doc. packages containing languages you need. I mean the following:

and replace en_US with your language specification.
