Hi,

I am trying to add items from my query to the header in cognos 8 report studio.
When i do this it sets another query; query2, query3 etc.

Does anyone know how to insert query objects into the header.

Thanks

Sid

Each query should be associated with a datacontainer (with the exception of the singleton) What are you trying to achieve?

Hi

Basically I have a list report in report studio. In the header I am trying to place items i.e. date range parameters for the report, the employee whose records are being queried.

These item are to be sourced from the query, however when i try to insert in to the header it brings up there is no data associated to this query.

Can you advise?

The page header has just 1 datacontainer which is the page itself. So, you can only display query related data associated with a query associated with the page.
Be very careful though, for the header this will work if no more than 1 row is returned. If you work with 8.3 or higher you might consider using a singleton query

Hi

How does a singleton query work, as I cannot insert my required data into it?

thanks

You can drag a singleton query from the toolset into any part of the report, but it may only consist of 1 dataitem and it will only return 1 row

Hi,

When trying to add a singleton object to the header, i am getting the error data is not in query 2.

'Unable to insert this data item here because the query context "Query2" is not the same as data items in query 1

Can you advise how to resolve this.

Thanks

Sid

1. Add singleton from toolbox to the header.
2. Select a dataitem from the package (not from other query) for the singleton..

Thanks I managed to figure it out.

With calculated fields comprised of two or more elements from the package, would you advise them to be introduced in to the FM? Then its a simple matter of pulling them in to the singleton items?

Thanks

Sid
