When you add PVs to VGs, do you add hdisks or hdiskpowers?

The reason I am asking is that i.e. hdiskpower1 is for hdisk50 and hdisk5. I assume that you need to hdisks to VGs. I am new to EMC disks.

thx much

Pseudo name=hdiskpower1
Symmetrix ID=xxxxxxxxxxx
Logical device ID=020C
state=alive; policy=SymmOpt; priority=0; queued-IOs=0

### HW Path I/O Paths Interf. Mode State Q-IOs Errors

1 fscsi1 hdisk50 FA 10cB active alive 0 0
0 fscsi0 hdisk5 FA 7cB active alive 0 0

You add hdiskpower devices to a VG, thus pushing the IOs onto the hdisks that make up the hdiskpower devices (in a RoundRobin fashion or whatever policy the hdiskpower devices enforce).

If you use the hdisk members of a hdiskpower device, the system won't be able to loadbalance the IOs, nor will it failover to the other hdisk should you have a SAN or FC adapter error.

HTH,

you need to add hdiskpower# to volume group not individual hdisk#.

thank you.
