I'm running a G3si V11 system, and I'm wondering if there is a way to setup the system to prompt for a PIN number when dialing long distance from certain extensions.

you would need to administer authorization codes.

cha sys feat

then you give the auth code the regular cor, and give the users a lower cor so they cannot make ld calls without the auth code.

Can you give a step by step for this ???? Wisdom is Knowledge

Step by step would involve a whole session on COR so I'm going to skip that, assume you know how COR and FRL work with your trunk groups to allow calls and jump straight to the easy part:

cha sys fea and mark Authorization Codes Enabled to y. You will also need to define the auth code length.

Next do a 'cha auth x' where x is a code the same length you defined in the step above. You will then have a screen that allows you to map auth codes to CORs. Simply enter the codes you wish to use and associate them with CORs.

Now, when a phone with a COR that doesn't allow toll calls attempts to make a call instead of getting wave off they will get a second dial tone after dialing long distance. At that point the user would enter their auth code, the system would verify that the code was allowed to place the call and the call would complete to the public network.
