We have some TN2501 cards installed by Avaya as part of the original install, and they are all in the same carrier 1A. Can the additional cards be added to any slots of any carrier available?

Thanks in advance for your response!

For maximum redundancy, the boards should be distributed across all available carriers. One restriction might be that the VAL boards only run at 100/full. The wiring adapter that goes from the backplane to the rear of the carrier needs to be the multi-color adapter (not white wires).

Thank you very much for your information!

A question on this installation instructions, Setp#8 (see bellow) says that Do ‘cha ip-i’ and put Enable to ‘y’. Do not enable if there is no ethernet connection. But our S8700 ACM1.3 only have "ON" column with "y/n" choice. Is this "ON" column the same as "Enable" column or field?

Quick and Easy VAL Board Install

Get static IP address, data mod extension, subnet, Gateway, and network name of the VAL board from the customer.

IP Address ___________
Data Mod Ext _______
Subnet ________
Gateway _____________________________
VAL Board Name

1. Insert VAL board into empty slot and put black IP Media Adapter (possibly in a little white box inside VAL board carton) on the corresponding slot/amphenol connector on the back of cabinet.
2. Let board settle. (no lights on board) [3 to 5 minutes]
3. Do ‘cha node-n i’
A. Name board: i.e. VAL#1, VAL#2, or what the customer wants.
B. Enter IP address.
4. Do ‘cha ip-i’
Don’t enable until you reach the end of the page!
A. For Type enter ‘VAL’.
B. Enter slot number where VAL was
installed: i.e. 01D11.
C. Enter name from step 3-A.
D. Enter Subnet.
E. Enter Gateway.
F. Enter Network Region ‘1’ unless
told otherwise.
5. Do ‘disp comm li’
A. Write down next unused link for next
step. ___________
6. Do ‘add data next’
A. For Type enter ‘ethernet’.
B. For Port enter VAL board location plus ‘33’
for port: i.e. 01D1133
C. Under Link put in the link number from 5-A.
D. Under Name put in name from 3-A.
7. Plug in ethernet cable to adapter that you should
have put on the back of the Definity.
8. Do ‘cha ip-i’ and put Enable (or ON?) to ‘y’. Do not enable
if there is no ethernet connection.
9. Do ‘sa t’ (save translation).
10. Do ‘disp ala’ to check VAL board for alarms and
resolve if any.
11. Job complete. You may install Voice Announcement
Over LAN software.

This what I have with "ch ip-i" command (entry is not required). What version of ACM do you have? We have ACM1.2 with S8700 servers.

Try putting just that board slot and cabinet number in

"ch ip-inter 01a07"

I tried, and I got response "1a07 is an invalid identifier ...".

cha cir" and make sure that the new board is listed as one of the circuit packs in the cabinet.

I have not yet add the new card, but when I tried "ch ip-i" followed by an existing TN2501 card (e.g. "ch ip-i 1a08"), the system still says "invalid identifier". It seems to me that our system (S8700 with ACM1.3 or MultiVantage, one of the oldest versions out there) does not allow any identifier follow the command "change ip-interfaces" at all.

You may have an "enable" command that you can use. You are also right in the fact that the version you are on is very old. I tried the Avaya site for 1.3.2 and it does not have much listed for that version.

I did find a few docs that may help you with your system.

Starting on page 3006 give you a description and all available commands for use on the Val Boards. This may get you there.

set ethernet-options

Manually or automatically set the ethernet connection
parameters.
