Hello Everyone,

I've been asked by my direct report to add new user credentials for the new vendor who will be coming on board soon. I was able to figure this out in Element Manager no problem and have successfully logged into all our phone systems with there credentials. I tried those same credentials via PuTTY but I'm getting an OVL428 indicating the username and password is incorrect. I know I'm entering them correctly and I tried on multiple systems but still get the same results. Does anyone know what steps I need to take to get these new credentials to work via PuTTY? I know in EM I had to setup a temp password first and then was prompted to change it when logging in for the first time. Thanks in advance.

You need to log in with a level 2 password and set up the new password.

What is a level 2 password? I've never had to do that before. Can you tell me how to setup a new password and I can try with my credentials?

Thanks EddieDuece for your help. After I type pwd and hit enter it prints out some user names like admin 1 and admin 2, both show password 2 as the TYPE. I never had an option to enter my password to check if I was level 2 though.

After it printed them out, did you see something like;

PWD
PSWD_COMP OFF
LOUT 20
FLTH 5
LOCK 15
AUDT NO
INIT NO

USER_NAME Admin 1
TYPE PWD1

USER_NAME Sadmin
TYPE PWD2 <--------------

Yes, see below

PWD
PSWD_COMP OFF
LOUT 20
FLTH 5
LOCK 1
AUDT NO

USER_NAME ADMIN2
TYPE PWD2
ACCT YES
PDT PDT2

If I have a level 2 password can I setup a new username and password in PuTTY and how? I need to match the credentials I setup for the new vendor in EM.

Mickp29 what release is your switch at? I know my 7.5 using UCM to create users does do in Element Manager and command line.

Really. We have 5 switches, all at release 7.5 as well. The command line won't accept the new credentials but it's working fine in EM.

May be a silly question, but I only ask because I did this, well didn't do.

I had to set up a basic user at each location, and forgot to assign rolls to their ID's.

Now Im sure its safe to assume you did, but just sharing my experience.

systems using UCM---starting at rls 6.00 have their passwords created in UCM---the call server ld 22 passwords are only used when the Call server leaves the security domain.

I assigned roles to the user in EM and gave them full access to everything. I am trying to test these new credentials in PuTTY from my machine. There has to be a way in the command line to create a new username and password if it hasn't been done automatically when created in EM.

did you log in to the UCM with the password you created and change the password?

When I first set the user up in Element Manager I had to enter a temporary password. Then when logging in for the first time with that temp password I was prompted to change the password, so I did. I confirmed it's working by logging out and back in with the new password.

so now you should be able to login to the PBX with those credentials

You probably need to create the user in UCM since the PBX is probably registered into the UCM for single sign on.

Do you have a terminal connected to your PC? If yes, can you log into the CLI window on the terminal?

I'm sorry jamie2 I'm not sure what you mean. From my PC I access the system via PuTTY or Element Manager. There is a terminal directly connected to the system that we can access but we only use admin credentials to get in.
