I have a compaq proliant 800 that is running out of space. I tried to add a new seagate 18gb scsi drive. The controller sees the drive with no problems but when novell loads the driver cpqs710.dsk, it says it failed to initalize the drive. This is using the built in scsi controller. Can anyone give me any ideas on what might be the problem?

The disk driver is most likely causing the problem. Upgrade to the newest driver. Not to forget to backup your data before doing so...

CPQSCSI.HAM replaces CPQS710.DSK as far as I know.

Load NWASPI.CDM
Load CPQSCSI.HAM SLOT=0
(just use the slot number from the cpqs710 load line).

Maybe you also need to update the BIOS and the run the latest system config. If you see errors like:

CPQSCSI.HAM states Card in slot 0 is non-Compaq.

Check also for Technical Documents on this issue on the Compaq/HP website.

Would upgrading to the cpqscsi.ham disrupt the function of arcserve? I'm nnot sure if arcserve would still be able to use the tape drive that is attached to the scsi controller.

you must have at least AS6.6, prior versions don't support HAM drivers.

Typical Loads for HAM drivers
Startup.ncf
LOAD CPQSCSI.HAM
LOAD IDEATA.HAM
LOAD IDEHD.CDM
LOAD NWASPI.CDM

The NWASPI.CDM is the Netware universal aspi layer. You have to tell Arcserve's Tape driver to use 'SHARED and/or ASPI' (or Adaptec ASPI) driver.

If it doesn't work, you might also have to check the arcserve.ini file for the following line:
CSNLM7=SYS:\ARCSERVE.6\NLM\ASPIBD HOST=0 NAME=BOARD0
(host and board numbers can vary, debending on how many adapters you have in your system).

Alain

oh, think it's asconfig.ini not arcserve.ini
sorry.
