Hi all,

A server with tru64, connected to a SAN storage array (Symmetrix). I can add new LUNs to the server, but how can you recognize the new LUNs without reboot the server?

(I'm the storage specialist)

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the version of Tru64 you are using.
For Tru64 v4.0 if you can work out what the special device file name should be, then:
cd /dev
./MAKEDEV rz<x><n> (where x is a letter, n is a number

For Tru64 v5.0 & v5.1 the special device files often get created automatically. But check out the man pages for dsfmgr , hwmgr , scsimgr.

I hope that helps

Mike

For v5.1a, we did the following to pick up new san luns:

First take a snapshot before adding:

hwmgr -show scsi -full > before_scan.out

hwmgr -view devices > view_devices_before_scan.out

Then do:

hwmgr -scan scsi

hwmgr -view devices should then show any new devices.

thanks guys, these are very valuable information..

Thanks again!
