Adding machine accounts for W2K in RH7 PDC

I have a Linux RH7 Domain Controller I nned to add machine accounts to for Windows 2000 Pro workstations so that the users can get authenticated onto the network. Any one know? James Collins

Do you have samba set up on the linux box? You will need to make sure linux has the same users and groups that the work stations do. Also keep in mind that linux is case sensitive.

Yes.

windows 2000 use encryption. Make sure encryptpâssword=true

I had problem with windows XP too. I had to patch it.

Try to log on Windows 2000 with a administrator account first.

Here is what I want to do. You let me know if the above still works. I have a Linux PDC and 6 Windows 2000 Pro workstations. When a user logs onto the network via these workstations they need to have a logon script run everytime. If the logon script is on the linux machine just adding the above to yes will authenticate users and start the logon script? James Collins

My Samba version is 2.0.7. Could that be the cause of my issues? Do I need a newer version? James Collins

If you are wanting to do PDC stuff via Samba I would suggest using a later incarnaiton than 2.0.7, like 2.2.X for example.
