Before anything else let me say this is my first go at setting up a WDS server...

I installed W2003 server and updated it to SP2. I then installed WDS and went through the setup steps, but pretty much took the defaults. The server is also a DC and DHCP server so it can provide everything at once, it's for imaging only in a stand alone network.

I received the images I need to use on the server on a seperate hard drive. They are in .wim format. When I try to add them as either boot or install images(not totally clear on the difference here) it tells me they are invalid image files.

Would it matter if they were originally created on a W2008 server? I am at a loss as to why my server will not recognize them.

UPgraded to W2008 server, same problem. Server still tells me the files are not valid images.
