adding image to column of radiobuttonlist

I have a radiobuttonlist of 12 items, repeat columns horizontal with 12 columns.

I need to split the items into groups of 3. So i will have 4 groups.

Can I do this?

I then want to add an image/background colour for each group

I don't think this is possible unless you create your own custom control. The only other thing I can think of is using multiple radio button lists.
