adding i2002 IP phone to Nortel BCM 200?

Hi:

I took over a BCM200 Nortel system that the previous person had installed. Unfortunately I've had no training on it so it's a learn-as-I-go process. I cannot figure out how to add a new phone to the system ... I just bought a used i2002 IP phone but when I plug it into the system it isn't recognized and I don't know how to set the IP of the phone or add a new IP phone to the software on the BCM200 Nortel system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Check if the DHCP-server is enabled - if DHCP-server on BCM used check: Configuration > Data Services > DHCP Server

Start the BCM Monitor and go into IP devices - anything there?

You need to get into config mode on the set and add the BCM IP under S1 and decide if the set will use a static or dynamic IP.

Reset the 2002 by unplugging the power. When it restarts, watch for the "Nortel Networks" display. Then immediately run your finger from left to right, across the four soft keys under the display. The phone should then display a screen with the question "use dhcp -yes or no" If you didn't get that screen you probably need to start all over. Once you do get that screen answer yes if you want to use DHCP or no if you want to enter the settings manually. Use full DHCP if you're using the BCM for DHCP, otherwise enter no or partial. If you select yes, then like Rainman says, you must have DHCP enabled in your BCM. If you select no you'll need to enter all your settings yourself by advancing through the screens and clearing out the old info and entering the correct info. If you select partial, you'll have to add some of the settings such as S1 IP (the BCM) and port (7000) yourself. You can leave some settings at default, such as action, retrys and ignore S2 unless you have a backup BCM. You'll need to access the IP terminal settings in the BCM, and turn on auto registration and set a password. If you check yes to require a password but leave the password blank, then the phone will register without prompting you for a password. Your phone should then prompt you for a DN but it may need to upgrade the firmware first. Good luck.
