I have been having problems trying to export a large catalog file (containing links) to a PDF. After reading through the helpful FAQ's on this site, I got the suggestion to save to a PS file first, then distill to PDF. This worked very well except for the fact that none of the hyperlinks show up in the PDF. If I need to create hyperlinks in the PS file, how do I do that? Your help is very appreciated.

Hello,
If you print the file to ps then distill to a pdf you can not get hyperlinks. Sorry.
What was the error message in exporting to a pdf from Pagemaker?
Is this one doc. or is it several files booked into one file?
Hope to be able to help with the links if I can get more info.

Before I sent the "Adding hyperlinks to PDF" post, I searched this sight, and picked up the suggestion to save the file as PS, THEN distill to PDF. This is how that suggestion ended:

"I forgot to mention: Only Export to PDF preserves all Links. Work flow Print to PS, Print PS to Distiller needs manual insertion of Links. ---G.Hoffmann"

Now my problem is, how do I manually insert links in the PS file?

Also, the reason I can't export to PDF is that the process stops with "This program has performed an illegal operation."

Shelley: obviously you know how to make hyperlinks.
I don´t have any problems, using PM6.5 and Export
to PDF for Distiller 3.0. Tested for documents up to
40 pages only. This doesn´t mean that I am especially
clever, it means that the 2-stage process is not necessary.
Now the practical solution:
Divide your catalog into several files. Book them together.
This preserves the links.
Test Export for each single file. If errors occur, then
find the offending page and repair. It cannot be expected,
that the whole construction is free of errors in the first pass.
Good luck --Gernot.
