aixperts,

i'm trying to add a hard disk from my ibm rs/6k 44p model 170. but after physically connecting it and reboot - the disk won't show up. my hdisk is an old ibm:

model: dors-32160
p/n:46H6048 2160MB
fru:07H1119
mlc: E60118
scsi id factory <6> new < >

when trying to check (only one hdisk is being shown):

#lspv -Cc disk
hdisk0 0001cc8f69d33cb0 rootvg active

#lsdev
:
:
hdisk0 Available 10-60-00-6,0 Other SCSI Disk Drive
:

the system has two scsi:

scsi0 Available 10-60 Wide/Ultra-2 SCSI I/O Controller
scsi1 Available 10-61 Wide/Ultra-2 SCSI I/O Controller

any guidance would be appreciated.

i forgot to mention, i am using aix 5.3

i also tried:

#mkdev -c disk -t 2200mb -s scsi -p scsi1 -w 6,1

Method error (/etc/methodscfgscdisk):
0514-047 Cannot access a device.

I'd change the SCSI id of the new disk, because you can't have 2 disks with the same address on one SCSI bus.

p5wizard - can you explain further? thank you.

First run the command

lsdev -Csscsi

to find a free SCSI address on the SCSI bus you want to connect the other disk to. From your original post I understand that the new disk is now set to address 6, but the disk you already have is also on address 6.

Shutdown the box, open it and remove the new disk.

There should be jumpers on the disk itself to preset its SCSI address. Set the address to 5 (or another address you choose that does not conflict with any other SCSI device you may have already).

Reconnect the new disk, then close the box and power it on.
