adding gifs to my programs

I have been trying to build a program with gifs added into it. But the pictures are more than 256 colors, so they get all distorted. I want to know how to put the gif's in without the picture getting distorted, and without making the pictures black and white. Any ideas?

You can convert Your GIF to another gif with 256 colors OR You must load the GIF in Program for example,with IPicture interface (find a sample in

http://www.codeproject.com/bitmap/cpicture.asp).

Thanks. I tried to compress the images before the post, but they still came out all distorted. I am going to try to use that link you gave me.
