adding flash to video basic question

Hello all

I am interested in learning how to edit video that I have coming from my camcorder. At this point I am still in the learning how to do it stage so I may be getting ahead of myself. With that said, If I want to create a swf using Flash and add it to a edited video can it be done and what are the basic steps to making it happen. As an example in the old flims I watched in school there was always a count down ie 3 2 1 then the video starts I would like to recreate this effect. I know how to do this using Flash but I am lost when it comes to adding this short swf file to my editted video AVI file.
