Hi,

I need to add a new fs into my HACMP config. The new fs has been created on a new vg.
My question is - do i only have to add the fs name to the existing HA config or do i have to also let HA know about the new vg. If so how do i tell HA about the new VG.

Thanks

hi,

If you have created a new vg , you need to specify a major number with it ,

1. What version of HACMP are you running ?
if your are running version 4 you could have used C-SPOC to create your volume groups + filesystems on both servers without affecting any users. Since you have created your newVG and filesystem.
Have you created this on both servers ? if not you will have to ? i.e. import volume group on second node, turn quorum off in volume group on both nodes.
1. Create newVG with unique major number .
2. create filesystems
3. in the HACMP resources you add the new volume group
under volume group field and new filesyetm(s) under filesystems field . noteing filesystems should be set to false when startup.

Then you synchronise the cluster , check for errors .

Thanks DSMARWAY

When you create a volume group i thought it would auto assign a major number, and if was unique to both nodes, then you could import the vg on the second node specifying that major number.

Can i not just add the File system to the HA resource and let HA discover the vg when it failsover.

you have to add the volume group and filesystem in HA resources ,and as long as the other server has the volume group imported with options don't start up on reboot etc..

it should failover.
