Adding Fields to a Formula and No longer adding up

Hi

We have a formula that adds various fields up i.e.

pay1 + pay2 + pay3

We have added some new payment fields to the table and amended the formula

pay1 + pay2 + pay3 + pay4 + pay5

The formula no longer works and appears to be seing the fields as blank rather than null - any pointers?
