After reading through this forum this seems like a very common story. I have a HiPath 3550 system which our new telecoms company won't support and the last company and engineer have gone bust; so I am trying to learn the system.

I have managed to get the Manager E software, connect with a NULL Modem Serial cable and download the KDS information, have a play with the settings renaming extensions etc; setting up automatic night service. So now I am briefly familiar with the software I would like to add a new extension.

I have 3 extension cards in total, One digital and two analog; all of which have spare pair ports and I would like to make use of them.

My question is when I wire up into the extension card, name the extension number on the initial line set up list, and import the KDS to the system; what is the next process to activate this extension? All the other lines of course have a green circles next to them in the list to mark them as working.

I appreciate anyone's help, I will more than likely be requiring more tips in the future.

Many thanks.

If it works like the 150 I used to have (Later the start of the 3000 series) you should be able to just cross connect the port to the jack and plug in the phone. THEN download the .kds file (you want a .kds file to work with where the system already sees the phone), and then do your naming and assign the extension number to the port. Send the KDS file back to the system and the phone should come up and work. Remember when wiring Optiset phones that polarity matters. Analog doesn't care as much these days. If you look at the ends of the line cord on one of your working Optiset phones, are they green? If so, are the ends of the line cord for the new phone green? If they aren't try it with one that is just for kicks, although that is usually more inportant if the phone has a sidecar on it or one of the option adapters like the analog adapter.

Good luck. Yell back if you're still having issues. It's been about 6 years since I drove one of those systems, but I still remember a little )

I have never had polarity issues with OptiSets OptiPoints or analogues for that matter.
Don is correct - connect up phones so as the system sees them and then do your download of KDS file.

I must thank you for your swift replies, it is much appreciated. When I'm back in the office I will check the wiring on our digital line phones. We have 5 Openstage 15 Ts and the rest analog DECTs.

So really, if I have wired the phones in correctly, and then extract the KDS file it should show the connection as live with a green globe next to it.

Thank you for the information. My quest continues to learn this system.

That is correct. If you have the phone connected when you download the KDS it should show that it is there. Then you just need to give it an extension and set any features up.

If the HiPath 3000 is of an older software version then OpenStage TDM phones will not work on it without being 'converted' to OptiPoint mode.
Hold down the 3 line 'menu' key then plug in the phone line.
You have a choice then of OptiPoint/OptiSet mode or OpenStage mode.
