I was asked to add an extension to a Meridian 1 system with about 400 extension capaibility. The new extension doies not initialize. It goes through a endless loop of the LCD lights flasshing in sequence. Does something else have to be done to enable a port possibly? Possibly this is a SL1 - I cannot tell for sure.

I am pretty sure it is a Meridian 1. It uses M2616 phones. I am using an existing phone to test so it should not be a compatibility issue.

I've been told that M1 station ports are polarity sensitive. If it looks like the set is trying to boot up but cannot, that may be the issue.

I have install numerous extensions on this type of phone system. Commentor Brutalis hit the nail on the head when he mentioned polarity. The port is polarity sensitive so try flipping the wires in the jack around as the sets will not do this automatically. You might have to go into the program where you disable and re-enable the set...I think it is LD32 but not quite sure.

Make sure you have it connected to a digital TN and not an analog TN. You cannot mix the two.

Yep, that was mu original mistake. I didn't open the cabinet to see what slots the cards were in. Once I used a digital TN the phone came to life but it still had to be programmed. GHTrout was my hero and walked me through it. Thanks Gene. Oh, you do need to reverse the polarity of the phone cord. I maintained polarity to the jack but it required a flipped patch cord for the phone to work.
