Adding doors etc in exact positions

I am copying a drawing for a client. I have drawn the building layout accurately by hand and am now drawing the layout using Visio Pro 2002.

How do I position doors etc in the exact area of a wall? I was looking for a datum point to use but cannot locate one. I can draw the layout okay but exactly positioning doors, etc. is a headache. I am a newbie with Visio so all help would be welcomed.
