adding domain in same forest

i'm running into an error when adding a new domain to an existing forest. It tells me the other domain is not an AD domain or cannot be contacted.

The existing domain has DNS and is operational...name resolution works and nslookup returns the correct informatin.

It's a test lab right now so i have both in the same subnet.

what could be causing the problem?

New server is looking for the domain and cant find it. Try putting a default gateway in pointing to the server.If the new server is going to be using the other server for DNS you could set that address as well.
