Does anybody know how to add a system wide disclaimer to every message that gets written (i.e text at the bottom of each message that says something like "the content in this e-mail does not reflect ideas of xxx compnay)? Is this possible in Groupwise or do I need to explore third party solutions? Thanks.

I think you need to go to a third party solution. We use a product called Guinevere... not only does it work pretty well for appending disclaimers to the bottom of E-mails it also can scan for viruses and can setup for filtering out some known SPAM e-mails that come across the INET agent. There is also one put out by SurfControl that works with GroupWise but this one is a little spendy. david e

We just use the signature.
When I set up a new person, I change their signature to automatically add at the bottom.

I enter their name, title and etc., and copy and paste a standard disclaimer to the bottom.

Works for us.

We use the signature solution too but you have to consider that signatures are kept on the PC and if Person A logins to Person B's PC then, when they attach a signature to their email, Person B's signature appears on their email.

This is a pain and adds to support costs so Novell should have been better on this. We use Novell 4.11/Groupwise 5.2.

I'm not sure of this but I heard that GroupWise 6 has support for appended signatures. GroupWise 5.x was released right before e-mail disclaimers really got hot and heavy. We currently use Novell 4.11/GroupWise 5.5 most of what we use Guinevere for is protecting us from e-mail viruses. The email appending and the filtering are just a good side effect of the product. One item I hoped Novell developed a little further is the Web Agent for GroupWise, the 5.x version does not sit well with me....

Signatures are kept in 5.5 with the network. You can log in anywhere in our office, and your personal signature retains. 5.2 didn't have that option. :)

Donna,

Sorry I said signatures, what I meant to say was disclaimers....

This does bring up an interesting question? If your disclaimer changes, do you have to go into each mailbox and update it? If you do I could see on a small PO but on a large one could be a little tiresome... Just wondering if there was an actual unencrypted area on the server where this information is stored?

If you're interested, you can download an NLM that I wrote for this purpose at It is something that I wrote since I needed the same global-disclaimer functionality that you're looking for. It's also free, so I hope this won't be considered a "commercial" post.

It's been working on NW5.1 with GW6, but should work fine with other versions (at least NW5 and up, GW5.2 and up).

It has a few other features like antivirus integration and attachment blocking, too. I'd appreciate any comments that you might have since I've only recently made it public. It's been working pretty well for me, though.

We use signature files (Tools/options/Environment ) to add all our signatures and disclaimers. This is server-based so it doesn't matter what computer you are logged onto when you are using GW. This is what I use in my disclaimer AFTER my regular signature:

CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE:
