I want to add a crystal report to my menu using Visual Menu Builder in Macola 7.6. I know i need to compile the report in crystal, do i also need to distribute the report? How does this work?

You can add an exe to the VMB, so you must first compile your crystal report. I prefer to use the pwe login & use tabs for custom crystal reports as exe or rpt (if you trust your users enough to leave report logic alone). Then, if you change a report or exe link to a report, you only need to tell your users to import a new tab instead of changing all the links in vmb. Just looking at this from a maintenance perspective. If you use vmb to add this item, be aware that the "browse" button to the exe may not always work. It did not w/ERS 4. I alwways had to manually type in the full path name to the exe file.

Personally, I find it to be too much of a hassle to do it that way.

I compile the report in Crystal and then create shortcuts for users on the right hand side of Macola's desktop or create a folder on the server with the shortcuts in it and then create a shortcut to the folder on the users normal desktop. That way, when I add a new report to the folder on the server, all of the users now have access to it.
