I can't find the feature to add a contact to a task. The button for selecting the contacts is not present. Usually this button is located at the bottom of the task.

This happened to me after moving my pst file to a new computer.

Even if I initiate the task from the contact page, the task will not show the pertinent contact.

No mention of product or version, so I'll guess... is it Outlook 2007?
Tools > Options > Preferences tab > Contact Options button. There's a checkbox to show contact linking on forms.

If Outlook 2010, File tab > Options > Contact

The missing button doesn't allow you to assign a task to a contact, but lets you associate a contact with a task.
