I have been contacted by a company to run conduit for a existing install

the orginal installer billed for conduit but never installed it its a REALLY slopppy install and they want it cleaned up

It seems I have seen a hinged type conduit that can be snapped over existing cabling somewhere

is any one familiar with this ? or any other product that would work

Im thinking about taking 2" conduit and slitting a groove in the back to slip the wire into any other ideas

I've never heard of a hinged conduit. What about installing
a wire trough or any other type of open raceway?

the cable runs along the ceilings in some offices
they had done direct bury cable becouse of rats eating the pvc cat 3 phone but then ran pvc cat5e for data

look at the pictures below youll see whats there

I cant run cable trays becouse they want it out of sight

Im also considering boxing it in with wood 1x6

I thought I had seen a ad somewher for a two part conduit with clamps so I thought I'd post here and see if any one had tackled a similar problem

To start with from your picks it does not look like it is properly supported. I think your only option would be to box it in. Frame it up and put wood or wallboard on.

you might want to consider innerduct. You can split it and put the cables in then mount it to the wall or ceiling. They could also paint it to match. Tough situation.

Mediatrak is some nice stuff, but looking at the pics, he might have trouble sorting it out and getting it in bundles to fit in the mediatrak. I suspect one big duct would be easier.

Thats an understatement.....

It comes in many different flavors including 1 big duct. The other nice thing is that they make all kinds of T connectors and elbows to allow a few cables to route down the wall in a smaller trak from the main bundle. It makes it real easy to clean up messes like the one pictured. Just go to and download a pdf catalog to see which products would work best.

That is uh...quite the install.

First, a few concerns. OSP cable (filled) is not rated for inside use and cannot extend more than 50' into the building (National Electrical Code). Supporting the runs of wire, wow. You cannot use another bundle of wires as a support for your bundle of wires. You can only support your wires with a listed support. In short, you can't wiretie your wires to the previous guys wires. You need to replace the wiretie at the support and bundle it all in there.

Anyway, thanks for the pictures, geez what an installation job. If you are thinking metal to keep the (ceiling?) rats off the wires, that may be the way to go. Personally I'd buy rat traps and put this stuff in Panduit type plastic trough with a snap on lid. Several ways to go, good luck!

It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

Panduit has several solutions for this. We are sold on the Panduit line here at the school district. It's great stuff ( plug..plug)

Thanks for the great responses its given me some ideas as to options and how to proceed

I'll come back later and post some more pictures , It really is a interesting install. :)

Daron thanks for the heads up on the electrical code I wasnt aware of that. I wanted to pull the DB cable out anyway just becouse its a PITA to work with so now I have some justification.

I like the Panduit T70 series. It is a nice product and holds a lot of cables.

Gosh, I thought baltimores oh my god was un understatement before. Now I know for sure its more like a
WHAT THE (*%!@#%@^(&)!

Is it even worth saving or would it be quicker and easier to rip it out and do it right????????

From the looks of the quality of the offices' construction, this company must be short on cash. Maybe they got what they paid for on the cable installation, but expected a lot more. I hope you get paid for straightening this mess out. I wouldn't take a job if I couldn't do it right in the first place. Even the lowest bidder should be expected to have quality standards. I was in the installation business for 32 years and this is one of the most shoddy jobs I've ever seen.
