Hello. We are trying to add a workstation to a domain (NT4 domain controller) that resides on a different network. These two networks are connected via a WAN with Cisco Routers. We are using a LM Host file on the workstation to resolve computer names to ip addresses. From the workstation, I can ping the name of the domain controller, the ip address of the domain controller, and the domain name itself. When I attempt to add the computer to the domain, I get an error message stating that a domain controller cannot be found (weird because from the computer I can ping it). Can the routers be blocking the request to add the workstation to the domain?? If so, how do I prove and resolve it? Thanks...

Are you running WINS on any of your servers? The domain has a different lanman record than a host does. Also make sure you can access that server by type \\dcname\netlogon and seeing if you can view that share. You will probably be asked for a logon going to that share.

We are not running WINS on the server. I will have to check to see if I can access the \\dcname\netlogon share. Thanks for the input...

Try temporarily forwarding broadcasts between the subnets.
