I am trying to think of a way to allow a user to add say a Client Number to a report without bactually having to open the report. What I need is for a user to open a simple app...box command etc and add in the new select criteria.

Can anyone help???

For a full listing of 3rd-party utilities, have a look at:

My DataLink Viewer can allow you to prompt the user to select a Customer (displaying a current list of Customers in the database) but requires that you decide in advance that the report should have a Customer parameter.

The toolbar of my viewer also allows the user to click on the built-in "Select Expert" button launching a dialog that allows the user to easily add selection criteria based on any Report Field. Note however, that only database fields placed on the report layout can participate in constructing these additional criteria. I hope that limitation would be removed by Crystal Decisions in a future release of the Runtime components (I think it's a bug).

Based on the information at:
"Report Viewer 9.0" provides an unrestricted access to modifying the record selection criteria.

Cheers,
