Adding anchors to requests

Is it possible to add an anchor to a request parameter in a servlet?

e.g.

A user is expanded a tree of items in a web page, if they scroll down the page and expand an item, I want to be able to tell the browser to move to that position to save the user from constantly having to scroll down, expand, scroll down again etc.

Any ideas?
